Furry Faces and Happy Places 2010.
These pets have all found their forever homes...
Jayla (aka Jada)
Jada is now Jayla! We hear she is "teaching" her new dad how to go for a walk Jayla style. It seems she has definite ideas on where they should be going, as well as the speed and distance of the walk itself. She is so happy to be a part of this family and loves them so much, she wants to have at least 25 hours in the day to spend as much time with each one as she can. We have it from a little bird though, that she rarely lets Mr. Fryar out of her sight. Thank you Mary Bryan, Hal. Peyton and Taylor for giving this wonderful pup a home!
Trooper
The story of Trooper is a long one. You can read the whole story if you click on the "Helping Local Pets" Page. He was abandoned in the middle of an intersection in front of The Rocky Mount Animal Shelter, by his owners and left to survive on his own. This sweet dog had been running back and forth and up and down the highway, looking for his owners, who literally threw him out of their truck.
Trooper, after reviewing many WONDERFUL applications, has found his new home! He is the BIG brother of a 14 year old, 7 pound terrier and quite enjoys being bossed around. He has already decided that even though he is a Mama's boy, that he likes the way his new Dad is trained to go to Bojangles to get him a cheese biscuit to share, starting the morning out right! He still has to be on a leash as he can jump or climb ANY fence , but with his dog trainer , this will be a thing of the past. So for now, he can be seen riding around town looking cool or out walking on his leash showing off his new family!!

Billy and Scooter
These poor babies' mom died while giving birth to them. They were hand raised by a kind person and secure in their new human family. Unfortunately the newest member of the human family has severe cat allergies and Billy and Scooter need to find a new home. Please open up your heart to these poor cats. They have been showered with love since they day they were born and give it back to their human parents everyday. They must now be seperated from the family because of the babies severe allergies. It is breaking the hearts of the family members, but they have no other choice. Here is some more information about them:
They both have been neutered, shots were all given by Coat's vet, loves anyone that will give them attention. They are brothers and have never been separted. They are indoor cats, but would love outdoors if it was secured, like a screened in porch/patio. I am running out of options for these two.
Update: Bill and Scooter are now outdoor cats living in the same home.
Gracie
She has come across a gray kitten that showed up at her neighbors shed. My mom lives outside the city limits and thinks someone dropped the kitten out. She already has 3 cats and 1 dog and can't afford another little one to care for. Can you place her on your website to see if someone may want a kitten to care for? She is a very sweet Gray kitten maybe about 4 to 5 months old. She has conjunctivitis in her left eye. She has been seen by a Vet in Wilson and my mom has been applying medicine to her eye for about a week now. Her eye has improved. She has no ear mites and she has been wormed. She is a spunkie little girl and we are calling her Gracie for now. Attached are a couple of pictures of Miss Gracie. My mom and I would appreciate any help you can give to help find her a really nice home.
Update: Gracie has found her forever home!
Brandy Snickers
Brandy is your typical gorgeous calico, except she is half persian. Snickers is much the same, a cute dilute calico girl, who is curious and finds all sorts of delightful ways to entertain herself. Both kittens have been altered and received vaccines. They both have their moms golden round eyes. What a happy reward to save these girls from the streets of Nashville and win their trust and hearts.
Update: Brandy and Snickers found their forever home. More pictures to come...

Mr. Claus and Nicholas
These babies were found living outside underneath a trailer in this cold weather. Their mom is a feral cat, who thankfully we trapped and spayed her. They were not used to humans, but are like new kittens now. In two days they went from scared to death of me to now eating out of my hand. They have already become happy house cats. They are 2 boys, approximately 12 weeks old. They have had their exams, vaccines and deworming. I think they would be happiest if kept together. They've had a rough start in life, and really are great buddies, as you can see. Mr. Claus is a snuggler and Nicholas has a ball playing with my 2 year old everyday.
Update: On new year's eve, Mr. Claus and Nicholas found their forever home, thanks to Charissa! She was at work and heard someone say they were looking for a kitten and Charissa told them about Animal Crackers. Carol saw the pictures of the kittens and fell in love. Please tell your family and friends to check us out daily, we post pets that need a home as soon as we get the information.

Here are some pictures of them in their new home...
Caboo, Oreo and Chet
They are part of the LITTER OF 10 that found their forever home in time for the holidays! These three babies went to a wonderful family in Cary that had their kitty pass away a few months ago. This family was looking for one kitten, but ended up with all three! Now these babies will spend the rest of their lives together, having the time of their lives! Thank you so much for keeping them together. They will entertain you for years to come.

Swifty and Snickerdoodle
These kittens were also part of the litter of 10. They found their forever home this weekend too (It's been a very busy weekend for Animal Crackers)! They were so happy to go together to their new home, they are best buddies.

Taffy
Taffy is too pretty to be a boy, but he is adjusting. He is quick to purr, and loves to just hang out. He has only been an inside kitten for a few weeks, but everyday is a breakthrough, socializing him to his new friends. He may be one of the most beautiful kittens that his foster mom has ever rescued! Taffy just found his forever home just in time for Christmas!
Samantha & Sundance
The two orange church kitties were adopted together today!! A retired woman who has recently moved back to Rocky Mount, her home town, adopted them and is delighted.
Found their "forever" home on Saturday, December 4, 2010!
Honey
Honey is a female, 3 year old, spayed and is current on shots. House trained, good with children and not aggressive to cats. Fenced in yard and is used to sleeping in side with family. She needs to be placed asap, because her owner has moved and she is being cared for by her brother. Call Dianne @ 252-883-3697 or Leslie @ 252-450-9626. Thank you so much for getting the word and picture out about this blue eyed girl!

China
I'm trying to get all the exposure I can for this sweet boy. He was saved from a "rescue". He was getting out of the doggie door and kept getting in the road. I could not stand the thought of him getting hit, so I traveled to get him. Here are some recent pics of "China". He is neutered, fully vetted (FVRCP, 3yr rabies, FIV/FeLV neg, gets along with all other dogs and cats. He loves everybody. He currently lives in a fenced in cat/dog yard. I'd prefer him to be a inside only cat. He is deaf, but responds well to tapping (vibrations). He is a very sweet/loving/laid back cat. He loves to be brushed and loves to be petted. He is all white (how he got the name "China", has a big bushy tail, one eye is green, the other is blue. He weighed 7.75 pounds today. He does have all his claws, but does not mind having them trimmed. His birthday is May 2009. I just want this cat to have the perfect, loving, home he deserves! If you could post him for me, I would more than appreciate your efforts!
thanks in advance, Julie Braswell at 252-883-8434.

Autumn found her "forever" home on Saturday, November 13, 2010!
Gus (Spike)
One day I was driving home during rush hour and didn't I see by the side of the road a tiny, tiny kitten! I immediately pulled over and walked over to him. He was so small and terrified he ran into a drain pipe that went underneath the road. So I returned with a flashlight to see him hiding in the middle of the pipe. I called and called to him, but he was so scared he just kept looking back and forth and wouldn't move. Connie and I went out everyday (along with another person who ended up also being another Cracker!) and put food and water out for the poor kitten, but we couldn't figure out how to catch him. Brenda from Merlin's Song came out to evalutate the situation. Her advice, set a squirrel trap since he was so small, only about 3 weeks old. Within an hour, we had him! Within 5 minutes, he was purring and purring, so glad to just be safe. We called him Spike, as you can see from his fur, he definately looked like one. He now has a happy home and a new name, Gus. He shares his home with 2 children who adore him.

Look at how big Gus is now...
Karma
Thank goodness that Connie was driving on 301 to save the day! She spotted a kitty that had been hit by a car and people were trying to help. She was emaciated and someone tried to give her some cat food in the the road. Connie put her in her car and drove her straight to Riverside Veterinary Hospital. She was treated and boarded until we were able to find her a foster home. Her new foster family fell hard in love with her and decided to keep her. Turns out poor Karma was abandoned, deaf and had severe thyroid disease. With some TLC, food and some thyroid medication, Karma now has gained some weight back and a wonderful home with her foster family and their 3 boxers.
Hailey (Camille)
Camille was found lost wandering in the woods all by herself. A good samaritin took her home, but was unable to foster her. A friend of the good samaratin's agreed to keep Camille until the perfect home was found for her. She was such a beautiful kitty that she was named after the good samaratin's beautiful daugher, Camille. Unfortunately being in the foster home, people weren't able to meet her. The kind people at Morrisville Cat Hospital agreed to keep Camille for a little while there so people could meet her and see what a wonderful kitty she was. Thankfully, she found her forever home there from one of their clients. Here is what her new mommy writes:
We are having a great time! She doesn't seem to understand why the big cat (Gracie) doesn't want to play and loves to chase her. Gracie is taking it pretty well, with fewer and fewer hisses each day. Gracie sleeps on my right side, and Hailey (I've renamed Camille-hope thats OK!) sleeps on my left. As a matter of fact, she is sitting on my desk right now watching the computer screen. She is quite amazed by the computer and the printer. She still has her nights and days mixed up, but I hope that will change eventually.
I was looking at your website and thought it may be a good idea to get another kitten to give Hailey a playmate and give Gracie a break....but I'm not sure if that will be too much for Gracie? I'm going to wait it out a few more weeks to see if they begin to bond. She has bonded very well with me and is very loving...a bit crazy sometimes, but all done in love:)Thank you for such a wonderful blessing in my life when I really needed it!
Bundles
If you are looking for a kitten that will add so much to your family, this is the kitten for you! It’s very playful and loves to end the day curled up in your lap. I already care for 2 strays, so I need to find a good loving home for this little one.
**If interested, please call 903-2225 or 972-3314. Thank you in advance
Kitty does not have a name. I think she is afraid to name it. We think she is a female. The daughter has been calling her Buddie. ….Maybe Bundles??( Bundles of Joy)?? If you want to “build” on that.

GiGi
GiGi is the moma persian of Snickers and Taffy (as you can tell, their foster mommy loves candy!). Gigi used to be an inside kitty until her owner left her. She was forced to go outside and fend for herself. GiGi is the sweetest snob of a kitty you would want to meet. She purrs for attention on her terms, like most glamorous girls and deserves a loving inside home. She is slightly high maintance with basic grooming needs, brushing, wiping eyes and clipping nails, but will give a lot in return. She is playful, chasing a feather and a bell ball to entertain you and her! Please give this kitty the proper home she deserves! She was recently spayed and looking for a forever home.

Kipling (Kip)
Kip is a 9-10 year old Weimaranar. Good temperament and good with dogs and cats. Not a high energy dog, but does love long walks. Kip is neuterd and has been abandoned by his owner. He weighs 90-95 lbs and eats 4-5 cups of good a day. He has a bed, collar, leash and crate and is absolutely free. He is the gray dog on the rights in the picture. If you are able to give this sweet dog a home, please email Aaron at creech@aactt.com Updated: 10/22/2010
Kip has found his forever home.
Candy
Most people who have seen Candy say that she looks like a lab or lab mix. She has had her shots and has received heartworm medication. The vet suggested having her spayed in a couple of weeks. She is probably about 6 months old. She has not been around children and other pets. She is very active, friendly, and playful. She has a tendency to jump and nip at your legs, which we want to break her of. But she is smart. My sister taught her to sit for treats. I know she would be a great pet for the right person. If you are interested in Candy, please contact Theresa at

Max
Last nite I got a call from evening receptionist at vet; she had a "situation" and didn't know what to do. She knew I'd recently become involved in animal crackers and called me. A non-client called the clinic with a puppy that had to go asap -- apparently he bought it for a young girl whose parents are dead and she lives with her grandmother in her uncle's house; when the uncle found out about the dog (all three lbs. of him) he hit the roof and last nite either the dog or the girl needed to be out of the house. I spoke to the "breeder" and she is willing to take him back but i have reason to believe it is a "backyard breeder" and would prefer to find a better home for him; he's had parvo shots and that's it. She described the dog as a chihuahua and apparently she was given three puppies from the litter by someone else.
The dog is actually a chihuahua-papillon cross -- sometimes referred to as a "chion" or [my personal favorite!] a "papihuahua." It weighs 3 lbs 4 oz and from a web site i learned adults grow to only 7 lbs. He's unneutered (testicles have not yet dropped) and very friendly and quickly adapted to my four dogs -- three of whom could literally swallow him in one gulp. He looks so much like the pic I'm attaching which coincidentally is of a dog named "max" (which is his name) but his head has much more black. he is black and white and looks like a short-haired papillon.
Does anyone want this pretty boy? I can't take on another dog right now with my employment (or lack thereof) situation. HELP! again, he's only 3 lbs and will grow to only 7; I think he could easily be "litter-trained" and thus make a good pet for an apartment dweller and/or older person.

Snickers
I have included two pictures of the puppy I found on Reges Store Road on Monday evening.
He was headed toward the intersection with Old Carriage Road (toward Northern
Nash High School). He probably weighs about 12-15 pounds and is very playful.
He still has that new puppy breath smell!
I don't know what kind of dog he is, but he is in great condition. Was not malnourished, so
I assume he may only have been "on the loose" for a day or so. But, he was walking down
the side of the road and it was getting darker and I knew he would get hit if I didn't pick him
up. He has on a slim red collar, but no ID tags at all. His hair is very smooth and soft.
And, we gave him a bath yesterday. He had no fleas or ticks. (That really makes me think
he has not been out very long."
He laid in my daughter's lap last night while she watched TV and they ate some popcorn.
He seems to be a house dog, but also enjoys lying in the sun outside. Yesterday, he was
playing with the neighborhood kids and they were picking him up and he was chasing
them around. And, I taught him to sit!
Hopefully, we can find the owners, but if not, I would like to give him to a family that has
a fenced in yard so he can play with kids and run around! I would keep him in a heartbeat,
but I already have an older dog, and she doesn't do well with other dogs around.
Let me know what else I can do to help find "Snickers" a home! (my daughter says he looks
like a Snickers Candy Bar!)

Snickers has returned to his home.
I need your help! This little girl followed me home from a walk today. I've left a message with the RM Shelter and I've asked around the neighborhood. I'm moving this week and I need to find her home. I can not take her with me! She has a pink collar on, no tags, and a flea collar. She's a mixed-breed, 20 pounds or so, white with freckles, found in the Old Farm Area. If you are missing her or know who she belongs to, please contact me ASAP.
Updated 10/20/2010: She has been reunited with her owner.
Speedy and Miles
On a day this summer where one of our loyal "Crackers" was driving along highway 301, she spotted 2 puppies off the road. This good samaritin pulled over to try to get them. They were starving, scared and had lost most of their fur. They ran into a drainpipe, and our Cracker did not give up. She got down on her hands and knees and crawled all alone into that drainpipe and was covered from head to toe in mud. Out she came with two of the most frightened puppies you have ever seen. They were such a mess and literally on their last leg. She took them to the vet, treated and cared for them and brought them back to health. They went to a wonderful rescue in New York, Brandy Keg Kennels. Thanks to Theresa, they have found their forever home, together!
Mr. Harris
This poor kitten was left starving at Harris Teeter. A good samaratin found him and took him straight to the veterinarian. Mr. Harris is 4 months old. HIV and Feline Leukemia negative. This lovable guy has been de-wormed, treated for ear mites, and has had his 1st round of shots. Mr. Harris is malnourished and will need a diet of wet and dry kitten food. He comes with a $75.00 Pet Smart gift card to help with food and supplies. Also the adoptive home will receive a $70.00 gift certificate for Coats Veterinary Hospital to cover neutering costs. Mr. Harris is currently staying at Coats Kitty Hotel. Please email Rebecca at rebeccabunting@hotmail.com or call her at 336-577-4115 if you are interested in Mr. Harris.
UPDATE: Mr Harris has found his "forever home". More details to follow.
Delilah and Lily (Teddy and Peanut)
From a litter of 10, these 2 kitties found their forever homes together! Thanks to Cory! More pictures to follow.
Rusty
On January 20, 2010 I received an email from one very special Cracker, about a pup that was abandoned at Christmas and rescued by Animal Crackers from certain pound puppy death. Shy and scared the picture of this little red pup wouldn’t leave my mind. With 3 dogs on a daily basis it was not going to be easy to convince my husband to let me bring home yet another member for the herd. I didn’t give up and kept asking until I got the “yes” I was looking for. The next night Miss Connie Lilley brought Rusty (named by my husband) to meet me. At 1st sight I knew this sweetie and I had met on the same path for a reason. It was in my path to give him a home and make him happy and it was a part of his path to ease the blow of an earlier loss. It wasn’t easy at first. This despondent pup had suffered through abuse and abandonment and had no idea how to act around humans that were nice. The frustration was swelling. Rusty didn’t mean to misbehave he just didn’t know how to behave. Animal Crackers was having a function at which several raffles were being held. I knew we needed help and one of the raffles was for a training course with Miss Engle Coats (the most loving and intelligent dog aficionada I have ever met). I filled out as many tickets as possible. Low and behold I won! My prayers had been answered. Engle taught us to communicate with Rusty. This common language brought about a new start for Rusty. He understands not all humans will hit him. Rusty is now a part of the family and his once sad eyes are now full of happiness. He has a band of brothers to play with and a Mommy and a Daddy. From 1st sight I knew Rusty was to meant to be in my life. Thanks Animal Crackers!

Butterscotch and Sunny
Our story begins at the Nash Shelter where an Animal Cracker just stopped by to drop off fliers for our Pet Food Bank Grand Opening. Andrea took one look at us and the other kittens (see Pepper and Lola below) and left in tears. She called another Cracker and the ball began rolling. The kittens were picked up and taken to the opening, but sadly no one adopted us. So we went to our foster home and were loved and cared for. Our foster family gave us all names and made us feel like part of their family.
Sophie and Tyson
We were adopted FINALLY! Now our names were Sophie and Tyson and we had a home! Our new mommy loved us so much, but unfortunately cat allergies plagued her and her boyfriend. They tried so hard, but in the end could not keep us.
Ginger and Tyson
Our mommy searched for the perfect home for us, and she found it! We were finally in our forever home, except Sophie was now Ginger and I stayed Tyson. Our new mommy loves us so much, as you can see from the pictures. We were so glad throughout this time we were able to stay together. Sometimes people don't realize that as kittens, we really want to have a buddy. It makes us feel more secure and we are able to play the way we like to with another kitty. We tend to get into less trouble because we are so busy chasing eachother around. This is our story. Meow!

Serena
Serena is just that - calm, peaceful, unflappable. This sweet girl was trying to make it outside on her own through no fault of her own, since someone decided to put her outside. She's made it through some horrible weather and freezing cold temperatures. Last winter she adopted my back yard and enjoyed eating there daily, but never allowed me to touch her. In July she had 3 kittens and taught them to avoid me. Recently I caught the kittens to work on taming them for adoption. Then Serena changed her ways, loving to be stroked and fussed over. She had been declawed and is now spayed. She's about 2 years old, FeLeuk negative, has a rabies shot and is looking for a forever home as an inside cat. This lovely animal is a delightful companion!
Update: A new member of Animal Crackers took one look at Serena and that was it! She is finally in her forever home.
Ashes Marley Chase
Ashes, Chase and Marley were born around the end of April 2010. They were born to a stray mother cat and were taken in soon after their birth because they were living in a situation that was not safe. The babies were raised in the home with lots of loving care but unfortunately the family cannot keep them because of the housing situation. They are now old enough for homes of their own. They have received their first set of shots and have been checked for Feline Leukemia. They are very good about using the litter box. Each one would make the perfect pet for any loving inside home. We now need to find these precious kitties their “forever” homes to call their own.
Update: Ashes, Marley and Chase found their forever home. We are beyond excited to tell you that all three kittens went together to their new home! They even have a beautiful garden to play in with their very own kitty door. We have a feeling that these three babies are really going to get spoiled in their new home. Thanks Phyllis!
Piper
I was found tied to a tree with no food and water. My fur was matted to my skin with paint splattered all over me. A kind census worker came across me and free me. She met a kind soul at Petco and Maggie agreed to foster me. I got all the paint shaved off me and I felt so much better already! I was cared for in a way I had never experienced. I had more food than I could possibly eat and love and exercise. My foster mommy looked long and hard and found me a forever home. Thanks foster mommy Maggie! I wouldn't be where I am today without you taking the time to take me into your home and show me love.

Buttons and Buster
Buttons and Buster are looking for their forever home. Their mom was found as a four week old kitten in the road. The kind people who rescued her were unfortunately unable to afford to have her spayed. As a result, we have these babies who desperately need a home. They were born around 12 weeks ago. They are extremely friendly and affectionate. They love to play ball together and chase each other. When they are tired, they will crawl into your lap and take a snooze.
Buster (M) and Buttons (F) have both been to the vet and received their vaccinations and deworming. They are looking for a forever home, preferably where they can go together, especially if you work away from home. If you are looking for someone to cuddle with and live entertainment, look no further!
Update: Buttons and Buster have found their forever home and will be going there next week. Check back for updates!
Jody and Gerri
Are you looking for a furry friend to share your home with? Then look no further! These beauties are looking for their forever home. They were taken in by a caring foster mom from a rough life being born outside. Gerri and Jody are playful female kittens who are avid fans of the World Cup. They practice their soccer moves daily with their kitten soccer ball. Another hobby they both share is knitting. They spend hours playing with their foster mama’s string.
These girls are around 8 weeks old and have been to the vet. They have been dewormed and vaccinated. Jody and Gerri are very social and playful. If you are tired of watching TV and want to watch something more, exciting adopt these girls into your home. They will not fail to entertain you and shower you with love!
The girls are looking for an indoor home where they can safely play.
Update: Jody and Gerri have found their forever home!
Biscuits
This kitten was found out on his own trying to make it. A loving family took him in and tried to find him a new home. He was such a sweetheart, they decided to keep him!
Lois and Leroy with their new family!
Lois and Leroy were in the same litter with Linus (below). They had been taken from their mom at 2 days of age and taken to the shelter. After being without food for 2 days, they were saved by an Animal Cracker minutes from being euthanized! They were all bottle fed until another fellow Animal Cracker Volunteer put them with a mama kitty she had with kittens. They had a rough start and were sick for a while. After lots of love and care, they all bounced back and are happy and healthy in their new homes.
Leroy, Linus and Lois
Linus and Pepper with their new parents!
Linus (aka Spooner) and Pepper (aka Jazz, aka PJ Huey) have found their forever homes! They each had such a rough start in life; Linus was taken from his mother at 2 days of age and left at the animal shelter. He had not been fed for 2 days and was very weak. He bounced back with a bang and now is an extremely playful, happy and healthy kitten. Pepper was seen by a fellow Animal Cracker at a shelter, was taken in by a kind foster mommy and finally has his forever home. They didn't know eachother at first, but now are fast friends that love to wrestle with eachother and nap together.
Lil Gripper
This sweet thing was found wandering around the Century Farms neighborhood in July 2010. Thank goodness he wandered into a good samaratin's yard who took pity on him. She fed him and looked for a home for him. She couldn't keep him at her home since her dog was not cat friendly, so her husband brought him to his work. I am happy to tell you that he is now in his forever home and as happy as he can be! Thank you Heather and Jammy!
Hattie MaeHattie Mae is a young lab/ border collie mix who was left in
a Rocky Mount hotel room for 2 weeks, existing on drinking toilet
water and nothing to eat until she was discovered. She had
suffered a broken front leg, which had never been set.
Believe me, this does not slow her down for one second!
She loves all her toys and to run with anything
she finds on the floor- racing back and forth through
the house or yard. She loves other dogs and children but
has never been around cats. Hattie is very shy when she
first meets someone new and then turns into a clown rolling
around on the ground and doing anything else she can
think of to get attention. She is spayed and up to date on
all vaccinations. Please take a chance on Hattie, she is an
unbelievable dog with such a funny personality! If you are interested
Update: Hattie has found her forever home!!! More to come...
Star
Star is a female tortoise shell kitten and is very beautiful and incredibly sweet. She has the sweetest little face and just stares up at you like she know exactly what you are saying. Gigi is a beautiful female calico who is playful and sweet. She loves to lay down in quiet secret places and take a cat nap. She has a solid patch of orange on her face that makes her very alluring.
Update: Star has found her forever home this weekend. More to come...
Missy
Missy is approx 4 years old / 10 lbs. and was found running loose in the street, apparently abandoned by her owners. She was undernourished. She is very playful and affectionate, full of energy. Loves sitting in your lap and playing with dog toys. She is used to a household environment and would make a great companion to a single person or family. She just wants someone to love and love her in return. She is very attentive and would make a good little watchdog. She is smart and with the proper training, learn more commands than she already knows.
Update: Missy found her forever home this weekend. More updates to come later...
Lola
Lola was recued by chance from a local shelter. Animal Crackers was having their Pet Food Bank Grand Opening and one of our voluteers went there to drop off fliers. She called another Animal Crackers Member, heartsick that there was a litter of kittens that were going to be euthanized. We decided to help these kittens out last minute. We gave the shelter the vaccines to give to them so they could be brought to our Grand Opening. As beautiful as they were, they did not get adopted. Since Animal Crackers does not have a shelter or a facility to keep pets that need a home, we were in a bind. A fellow member offered to keep them until we could place them. We sent out an email asking for people to forward it on, in hopes that someone would want to adopt a kitten or two. Fortunately for Lola, it was her lucky day. A wonderful woman saw her picture and fell in love with her. Through our extensive communtity support, she got a ride to Kill Devil Hills and met her new mom. It was instant love. Poor little Lola had not had the opportunity to see a vet since she was rescued and was not feeling well. Her new mom nursed her back to health and now she is happy as a clam. She has other kitty friends (and even a bird!) to play with and is spoiled with lots of toys and affection, just like every cat should be. Thank you Judy for saving Lola's life!!!

Betty
Betty was dumped on a rural road and left to fend for herself. She lived on whatever she could find on the side of the road and slept in hole she dug out in a cornfield. She was rescued and was taken in by Debbie Womble of Wishing Well Kennel, who after many months of working with her and building her immune system back up, adopted her into a loving forever home with 5 loving children.
Gabby
Gabby was found in a neighborhood hiding in the bushes one day. Rumor has it that she was a stray in Nashville and someone felt bad for her and dumped her into another neighborhood, hoping someone would adopt her. She was extremely friendly and approached me purring. My heart went our to her, and we searched for her owners. We were unable to find them, but she has a happy ending. A wonderful teacher in Durham adopted her after one of his cats passed away. His other cat Zebra needed a buddy and Gabby moved in. Even though she is the newcomer in this home, she is the boss. She is so incredibly sweet and affectionate with her new owner Bryce. She is extremely happy and settled in her new home.

Mike
Mike is a young lab mix who was turned into the pound when his owner, who was in the military, got shipped to the Middle East. He was such a favorite at the pound that they sent out a statewide appeal to all lab rescues in order to save him. He loves to swim and will fetch for hours. Mike loves everyone. He is a big, sweet teddy bear of a dog and you could never find a more loving fellow or one more eager to please.
Mike has found a forever home with a wonderful, loving family in Raleigh. They have two children who love to play with him and even fall asleep on top of him. It is a match made in heaven and we thank this family from the bottom of our hearts.
